The best GPS tracker for farm equipment finds its own position by GPS, sends it over its own 4G SIM, runs on batteries so it needs no wiring, and alerts you the moment the kit moves. Pick a slim, daily check-in tracker for implements and static kit, and one that records every journey for tractors, quads and trailers in daily use. Here is how the four kinds of tracker compare, and what to check before you buy.

Each kind does a different job. The right one depends on what you are tracking and where it is kept.
| Bluetooth tag | Rechargeable 4G tracker | Wired telematics | Battery 4G tracker with a plan | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How it finds its position | No GPS or SIM of its own: it shows a position when a nearby phone picks it up | GPS, sent over its own SIM | GPS, sent over its own SIM | GPS, sent over its own SIM |
| Power | A small coin cell | A built-in battery you recharge | The machine’s own electrics | Long-life lithium AA batteries |
| Fitting | Stick it on or tuck it away | Strap or magnet, so it comes off to charge | Wired in by an installer, or fitted by the maker | Screw, rivet or cable-tie it out of sight, no wiring |
| Running cost | None | A SIM plan, usually monthly | A subscription | A yearly plan, or 2 or 3 years paid once |
| Suits | Keys, bags and tools close to home | Kit you can reach easily to recharge | Newer machines with a factory-fitted system | Implements, trailers, quads, older tractors and anything without a factory-fitted tracker |
SatTrack trackers are the last column: battery 4G trackers with a plan.
For kit left in fields and at the far yard, you want a tracker with its own GPS and its own SIM, so it reports wherever the kit is, day or night, with nobody else nearby.
Wiring means an installer and a machine with electrics; a trailer, plough or bowser has none. Long-life batteries fit anything. Ask whether the battery life is guaranteed, and on which setting. Ours carry a 2-year battery guarantee on the recommended tracking profile: if the batteries run out inside 2 years, we send replacements free.
Look for a movement alert, a geofence you draw around the yard, and out-of-hours alerts for the times nobody should be using it. That is what turns a map into security.
Ask which networks it uses. Ours use LTE-M and NB-IoT, the long-range 4G networks built for devices like this, on a SIM that roams across the UK operators, so coverage reaches well beyond phone signal. If part of the farm is a known dead spot, tell us the postcode and we will check before you buy.
Kit in daily use is best on a tracker that records every journey. Kit that sits between jobs needs only a daily check-in and an instant alert when it moves, which saves battery.
Ask for the weatherproof and impact ratings. Both SatTrack trackers are IP68 weatherproof and IK07 impact rated, from -30 to +60 °C.
Every tractor, quad, trailer and implement with its own name and icon, in an app and on a desktop dashboard, with a login for everyone who needs one. Ours has unlimited users at no extra cost.
Add the tracker and the plan together and look at the yearly figure. Check what the plan includes and whether it renews automatically. Ours includes the SIM and data, app, alerts, Recovery Mode and UK support, with no contract and nothing that renews without you.
Two trackers, one app. Mix them on one account and see the whole farm on one map. See the farm equipment page or compare the two, including size to scale.
Left in the field between jobs. A Barra GPS checks in daily and tells you the moment one moves.
Static kit that should never move. A Barra on each, fit and forget on Eco profile.
An Oyster3 hidden under the seat pan or the rack, with an alert the moment it is moved.
An Oyster3 in the cab records every journey. Geofence the yard and get told when one leaves after dark.
In daily use, an Oyster3 records every journey; a trailer that mostly sits suits a Barra.
Out for shows and road runs a few times a year. A Barra checks in daily and tells you the moment it moves.
The tracker is yours to keep. The plan covers the SIM, data, app, alerts and UK support. £238 for the first year.
The tracker is yours to keep. The plan covers the SIM, data, app, alerts and UK support. £298 for the first year.
No contract, and nothing renews automatically. Paying for longer? The 3-year plan is £239, which saves £58 against paying yearly. See all plans.
One that finds its own position by GPS, sends it over its own 4G SIM, runs on batteries so it needs no wiring, and alerts you the moment the kit moves. For implements, bowsers and generators that sit between jobs, pick a slim tracker that checks in daily; for tractors, quads and trailers in daily use, pick one that records every journey. Check the battery life is guaranteed and know the yearly running cost before you buy.
Not a battery tracker. Ours run on lithium AA batteries and never connect to the machine’s electrics, so they fit a plough or a bowser as easily as a tractor, and move to another machine in minutes. The 2-year battery guarantee applies on the recommended tracking profile.
A Bluetooth tag has no GPS receiver and no SIM, so it shows a position only when someone else’s phone passes close by. That works well in a town. For kit out in the fields or the far yard, a GPS tracker with its own SIM reports wherever the kit is, with a movement alert the moment it goes.
Keep using it. SatTrack is for anything without a factory-fitted tracker: the older tractors, the yard tractor, quads, trailers and implements, all on one map with their own alerts.
The tracker is yours to keep: the Barra GPS is £139 and the Oyster3 4G is £199, inc VAT. The plan is £99 a year, or £239 for 3 years paid once, and covers the SIM, data, app, alerts, Recovery Mode and UK support. Fleet pricing on the plan starts at 5 trackers.
Yes. The dashboard keeps movement-based run hours and the journey history for every tracker, so you can see which machine has done the hours and is due a service, and export it when you need to.
You get a movement alert within minutes in any profile. Open the app and select Recovery Mode on that tracker. It then reports every 30 seconds, near enough live, for up to 24 hours at a time, and you can switch it on again, so you or the police can follow it. Share a live link from the app and the police can watch it move without needing your login. Recovery Mode is something you select; it does not switch on by itself, so keep notifications turned on.
Both trackers arrive ready to use, batteries and SIM in, posted the same working day if ordered by 2 pm.
